SHIFTING GROUND, an exhibition of twenty seven works from La Cambre audio-video in Zebrastraat (Gent)
La Cambre audio-video has been created five years ago at the National School of Visual arts of La Cambre. Starting in october for a four months’ intensive workshop open to Master students from any of the seventeen depart- ments in the school, La Cambre audio-video is definitely made out of passion.
In 2008 a first exhibition has been organised in an old swimming pool in Brussels at the Bains::connective. The show was entitled "Screening Pool", followed in 2009 by "Two openings" in an old Brussels' brothel : l'Hotel Le Noailles.
Both exhibitions have been well received in the contemporary art field and you are, here, discovering the third one. We are delighted and proud to have been invited to produce this new edition in the Liedts-Meesen Foundation at the Zebrastraat in Gent.
Two lectures are organised during the Shifting Ground openings’ day : one by Ulay (artist, relation works with Marina Abramovic) who's coming from Slovenia for this special occasion and the other one by Frank Lubbers (ex-chief curator at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven).
The fifteen students have been working this year with Maria Tarantino, Jean-Christophe Bailly, Marc Trivier, Patrick Codenys, Kendell Geers and Geoffroy De Volder.
Previous collaborators include Edith Dekindt, Michel François, Alfredo Jaar, Ann Veronica Janssens, Vincent Meessen, Els Opsomer, Sarah Vanagt, Angel Vergara, Katerina Gregos, Nicolaus Schaffhausen, Paul Willemsen, Claudio Pazienza, Thierry Knauff, Roger Van Erck, Patrick Leboutte, Thierry Odeyn and Roger Alvarez.
Also a special seminar «le Gai Savoir audio-visuel : nouvelles ecritures du désastre» was one of the proposals of this year’s workshop. La Cambre audio-video tends to use different media to give fresh light to meaning through a subtle approach that remains violent but necessary.
An incitation to create powerful acts !
